PLEASE HELP... What other cichlids could i put in with male red devil, hes just a young pup now but i want to go ahead and stock the 180 for his arrival after he spawns with my RD female in their 80gallon breeding tank... How many convicts or maybe 2 other large aggressive cichlids like GT or JD....

Crenicichla sp. xingu I, II, III....Crenicichla lenticulata, Crenicichla marmorata, Crenicichla sp. 'venezuela'...Crenicichla cincta...just a FEW pikes that would look PIMP wit it!

It really depends on the fish.... I have never seen an agressive GT or JD.. In my opinion they cannot hang with the truly agressive cichlids at all... I would be doubtful if any of those pikes would stand a chance either.. If you get a mellow dude then everything will be fine.. but that is a big if... Xperience really tells me it really all depends on the fish... Me and my gf have a pair of dovii a huge midas, pike cichlid, huge GT.. parachromis fredristal.. smaller red devil/midas.. texas cichlid.. all together in a 120 and they are pretty much fine..

In the 75 gallon though with juvenile cichlids 2-4 inches.. the flowerhorn kills everything.. He killed an umbee, grammodes, and there is constant fighting in the tank.. IT started out with an umbee, grammodes, FH, convicts, two festae, and a red devil.. I know this combo would not usually work or maybe ever but the first combo in the bigger tank shouldn't work either..

Trial and Error.....

P45, I'm sorry bud but I will have to dissagree with you on this one.... The only african that gets big enough and that is aggressive enough to be put in with a RD is a Tilapia Buttikoferi... There might be a select few others that could but they more then likely would also be Tilapia...

I would go with maybe a FH, Buttikoferi, B.Midas, Red Terror, Uro or any of the pike cichlids that peanut listed, would look very sweet with your RD and would have no problem keep him in check...

Yeah i've also considered the buttikoferi and possibly a Green Terror mixed with about 5 convicts with the male RD but mixing in a Red Terror with the RD is a risky deal isn't it? I heard the Red Terror gets huge....

Looks like you really want those convics. I love the little buggers but i serously doubt that they will be able to hang with the devil or some of the other tank mates people are suggesting.

I would go with a jaguar, red terror or a Tilapia Buttikoferi and i guess you could go with a dovii. Not all of them but these are large mean fish like the red devil esp. if you have a breeding pair. But then again that is just what i would do.

it would probably be pushing it, an umbrie wouldnt work because they grow to about 24 inches, and need 300 gallons just to themselves. Did you think about maybe trying to get a pair of red devils.
