Please Help with 180 gallon tankmates for male red devil...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like to put it this way RD and oscars on the surface appear mean but the RD is the only one that will "act" upon his aggression, I think the oscar gets an aggressive title just because of its ability to eat everything. I say this because I just got rid of my 13"er cause my 9" Devil wooped him. :(

Is there really a true answer to this question? Several people have given their opinions and other members have given their opinions to other opinions. Now its your turn to take what you've heard and buy some fish, you really don't know for sure what will work until you try it. :clap :clap :clap

Well cosidering that the cichlids i want are going to get huge i'v made a decision, After the male spawns with the female he will then go into the 180 with (1)Trimac, (2)convicts, (3)Tinfoil Barbs, (3) Clown Loaches..... I figure as the 2 Big Males mature they will sort things out between them and the others and there may be casualties of the target fish but thats life. Thanks again for everyones help.

Are you reading the posts in response to your ques.?I would really shy away from putting fish (convicts) that stay small with fish that get very large (RD, Trimac) and overly aggressive. But hey at least you made up your mind.

i already have a true pair of young juvenile RD's right now there in a 80 gallon together that i have about 300 in just in filtration. They are going to spawn any day now. But when she lays eggs he's outta there and into the big 180 and i'm troubled on what to keep him with in there?
300 what? Gph, dollars......?

everyone i've talked to that have owned large aggressive cichlids have said the same thing, less room to distinguish territory less problems with large cichlids. Keep there focus on all the smaller fish and off each other.... But like you said time will tell so i will just have to try it and see if it works...
