Please Help with 180 gallon tankmates for male red devil...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i already have a true pair of young juvenile RD's right now there in a 80 gallon together that i have about 300 in just in filtration. They are going to spawn any day now. But when she lays eggs he's outta there and into the big 180 and i'm troubled on what to keep him with in there?

blue ram.

rams would not work. Try a pike cichlid. I'm sure peanut power could hook you up with a sweet pike that could work in your setup

P45, I'm sorry bud but I will have to dissagree with you on this one.... The only african that gets big enough and that is aggressive enough to be put in with a RD is a Tilapia Buttikoferi... There might be a select few others that could but they more then likely would also be Tilapia...
My extended experience on the matter says otherwise. Mbuna and haps can great tankmates with large American cichlids. Please avoid deprecating my observations with your own untested opinions in the future, thanks.

If you wish to argue the point, then argue it, but don't slather your speculations over others' experiences, as its quite rude and misinformative to the individuals looking for answers.

I had a large male red devil in with my oscer and large redhead ciclid the red devil almost killed the oscer but left the red head alone so i dont know if my ocser is just a wip or if the red head was more of a match for the red devil
