Your ammonia should be at 0ppm. If you have any ammonia whatsoever, your tank is not cycled or has too little filtration for the bioload. What kind of biomedia are you using and how much? You might need to add more.

Did you actually read his post? He stated he has an AC110 and 50 or a 37g. I dont think thats inadequate.

Hey newbie, stay out of this. Of course I know what kind of filter he's using. :screwy: I have 3 of them myself in storage that I don't even use any more.

My question (pay close attention this time RedAlkiestarte) is, "What kind of BIO-MEDIA are you using and how much?". i.e-Biochem Stars, ceramic rings, scrubbies, plastic army men etc etc etc.

You can run 20 of AC110's on his 37 gallon tank but if you don't but biomedia in it, it's totally inadequate.

I replaced my Biofiltration media that came with the filter with a combination of Rena Bio-chemstars and Eheim hollow ceramic rings and tripled up on the quantity. With larger waste producing monster fish, you need lots of biofiltration.

**Special note to RedAlkiestarte**
The Biological filtration media is what converts ammonia and nitrites into relatively non-toxic nitrates.

Have you tested your tap water for high ammonia readings? Considered that your test kit maybe bad and getting a LFS or fellow hobbyist to test your water?

Balton777, First of all, dont call me a newbie. Second of all, all ACs come with ceramic rings so Im sure he has some. And turning over his tank nearly 20 times and hour is inadequate?? He said he had a 3" oscar and 2" pleco you really think at that size the bioload is big? Please use a little more common sense.

***SPECIAL NOTE TO BALTON777***
The Biological filtration media is NOT what converts ammonia and nitrites into relatively non-toxic nitrates. Nitrifiers convert ammonia and nitrites into nitrates.

Which is the question hes asking, why is it taking this long.

Okay i just stole biomedia from my tank upstairs.

The parameters on that tank were 0.5ppm Ammonia,0ppm Nitrite and 15ppm Nitrate....
Think that will help?

Did you use the same kit to test that tank and how recently did you do so?

Put in your seeded media and back off on the water changes. Still monitor, especially how the fish act. And you were told correctly about the store bought bacteria. Most of it is garbage.
