if it is velvet, what would be the best treatment for a planted tank? the plants r already starting to look bad due to the decreased lighting &/or binox

the bettas were the only ones that went so fast, & they showed no signs b4hand...starting off, i lost a goby, large angel & krib...the goby & krib had the risen areas & went FAST like the bettas, the angel did the same as these r doing but stopped eating also

was reading abt costia & saw this: "At higher temperatures the generation doubling time can be as little as a few hours!" should i lower the temp rather than maintaining 82?

it looks a lot more like costia than velvet...they r eating like pigs, not holding fins clamped & are still pretty active.

suggestions on what treatment to try?

I doubt it is velvet disease. It is characterized by gold spots. Use Acriflavine in this case.

I just saw the link in your previous post...sorry...lol...sick fish always worry me.

OK...So the temp is fine, would it hurt to raise it a cpl degrees to try to get rid of some of the parasites?
As for the treatments, that page does not mention plants & should the Malachite Green only be used in dip/baths rather than treating the entire tank??

It won't.

I have used Malachite Green in my planted tank and never had problems but that is because I used it according to instructions. Correct dosage that is rather than overdosing. Overdosing can be fatal.

Pls make sure to use carbon to remove Binox if you want to treat with Malachite Green. We can't just be too sure that mixing meds won't have ill effects.

OK...Thank you for all of your help :)...I am a mess over this tank...lol...I'm glad we were able to get it & everything that came with it, but it has been one headache after another...it will be so nice once it is all settled down & going strong :)

am doing a water change & adding carbon to the sump shortly ;)
