Currently using a 42 gallon tank housing 8 fishes and they are soon to out grow then tank. I want to upgrade to a larger tank around 280 gallons. I have 1silver aro 1rtg aro 2 motoro stingrays 2oscars 1bichir and 1 alligator gar and planning to buy a blue base aro or a chili red aro, what is the ideal tank size required to house all the fishes. and what filtration would you guys suggest for a 280 gallon tank to keep the water crystal clear water.

Let me stop you right there. If you truly have an alligator gar then it would be best to get rid of it now because the chances of actually being able to house one to adulthood are very slim for the average joe which I’m assuming you are.

yes. 8ft will the size of a full grown gar

I know I have kept them in a very small tank. but now I'm looking forward to upgrade my tank. so I just want to know the size of tank required for the fishes I have keeping in mind that they are going to grow HUGE!!!.

Well if you’re willing to put in the effort I’d say there’s a chance of diy’ing a pool type aquarium that can hold him. I’m not sure how big of a tank you’d need for the others though, sorry.

YOURE THE GOAT!!! All that in a 42g? I’d always say sump, easier to maintain and adds extra dilution
