It's that style of hood yes, though not a marineland - it's a Baolai. Those Icecap units look like the style of lights in my hood (though they are only 25w) so would make changing over a lot easier. Will have to see if any of my local stores have them - paying over $100US for shipping to Australia plus the cost of the kit does not really take my fancy. Many thanks!

ahh, ic ic, i forget that your in australia lol. Im sorry. Not sure of much in Australia, but any unit of the nature would do the trick. Only thing your gambling on would be quality. Good luck in the search and keep the updates comming.

BTW the tank is looking great, and with the new lights and some corals in there, it will be stunning.

I hunted around - doesn't look like anyone does those type of kits in Au, and the few I found internationally either won't ship here or price is just prohibitive. I did find another alternative to T5's though - 96w CF lights http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/catalogue_products.php?prodID=3653&catID=86 (I got a discount due to marine society membership also which is good)

I bought one of these today and pulled the existing lights out (that was a major PITA, but I managed to get them out pretty much intact so they can be reused if required later) The new light is a bit too wide (I can no longer get an arm in the tank to rearrange etc without removing the hood - gap is only approx 2" between light and front glass) but the zoas and the misc 'fluffy' coral I have have opened up more than they have before (the anemone closed, will see how long it takes it to get used to the idea)

now I guess just have to work on more flow. Apart from the filter I only have one 720g/hr powerhead. will get another when my purse recovers a little

Many thanks for the compliment. Now with more light I should be able to do more with the tank and have it set up really nice

how many bulbs do you have in there, 3 still?? the CF lights work okay, but may not be enough for the anemone in the long run. Mushrooms and frogspawn would work well, plate corals, any kind of polyp and zoas would work, higher up on the tank anyways. some low-mid light LPS would work also, again depending on placement.

Anyways, just thought i would give you some ideas, have fun with the tank and keep us posted with pics and what not lol.

there are 2 96w tubes. One tube alone is more than the 3 T8's I had in there before, both tubes are more than what I could have got with a 3 tube T5 setup (all space would allow) The anemone opened after a couple of hours and now it's tips are swelling a bit (looks like it actually is a bubble tip) so it appears to be doing better.

Will upload pics shortly

Photos....

My glass needs another clean.... Hopefully the algae will go away soon. May need a bigger clean up crew also, have a couple of large trochus snails and half a dozen hermit crabs atm. Would like some shrimp to go with it (and maybe another snail or 2 and something to clean the sand!)

Please also forgive my woeful photography skills

the new light installed... not much room between the light & front of the tank
