I breed Fryeri "Iceberg" for years, I can not see them (any fryeri) in this fish. That is not your fish though. Yours has a white tip on its dorsal blaze. It’s definitely a hybrid dimidichromis species with another species that has a white blaze, like fryeri or some other species.
Can you post a full lateral view shot of yours instead of a stock pic off the web? That exact image is used by a b’zillion online stores…
It was believed that dimi-comps hit the eyes out of their prey. A belief that has never been witnessed or proven![]()
Protomelas looks like a possibility but I think sometimes hybrid can be obvious but sometimes impossible to determine.100% agree. There’s also not enough lateral compression for it to be a dimi comp x dimi string. The head looks more fryeri or perhaps protomelas. The picture angle doesn’t help much. A full lateral shot with the blue lights off would help, but at the end of the day, it is definitely a hybrid and your guess as to, which is as good as mine![]()
In my current display tank my OB Zebras have spawned with my Mirrorballs, the male is blue and clearly hybrid looking, the 2 females are blotched you would just assume they are OB Peacock females.
