not all females are yellow... there more than one type of Johanni. Some are both blue...

But the stripes are going a different way... so it still would not be a johannii... maybe this is a pair but i need ID on them..electric blue??

I was well aware of that. I was just putting that information out there for others. I believe yours maybe a P. socolofi but I am guessing Pseudotropheus elongatus

Are they the same ...? first things first lol :)

from your pictures they sure look it, but I may be wrong... those two are the ones you are talking about they may both be male.
I sure have alot of boys,,thanks :)

Firstly, Melanochromis johannii males are blue with the females being an orange colour. The fish in the second pics look to me like they are Melanochromis joanjohnstonii rather than Pseudtropheus socolofi. Most definitely not an "elongatus".:screwy:
:naughty: :headbang2 :nilly:

I just found this picture of the melanochomis joanjohnstoni and i believe it is exactly as you say as i compare the pictures..what does everyone think.. so far yippee a match!!!;) of course i also looked up the joanjohnstoni female and she is goldish in color.. so that still leaves me without a pair...

M. johanni: blue males, yellow-orange females (both genders are born yellowish and the male transforms)

M. cyanerhabdos: blue males, blue females (typically sold as 'electric blue johanni' or maingano). (both genders born blue-ish).

Male johanni's are similar in appearance to m. cyanerhabdos, so I'm not sure which melanochromis species the original post has in the first post of this thread.
