Also, part of the grading process not only are they graded for color and size but also health. Any fish appearing sickly will be sorted to the lowest grade and its these fish that are being purchased by Walmart.
I think the point everyone is trying to make is they agree walmart shouldn't be allowed to sell fish at all being that they don't take care of any species, not just puffers.
The point I believe most are making here, myself included, is getting the FDA involved about a fish that has a toxic chemical in its genetic makeup is only going to lead to puffers being placed on the federal banned species list. If the FDA actually goes the distance and investigates this, and they indeed find TTX in the water and trace it to the puffers...they will ban the fish, not punish the place they find it at.
Obviously I do care but let's be realistic this is Walmart we are talking about. You still didn't explain to me WHY many fishes has died at several Walmart when they do not stock any puffers for years?

Or you could just drop the petition as if it didn't existed. It is a losing battle and there is no case of someone gets sick from a water full of diseased puffers. Maybe you can get Walmart to stop selling live fishes in general or hire a specialist but banning a species isn't the answer. I won't sign the petition.

Maybe you should get in touch with Cornell University, they have an excellent veterinary program, rather than basing your movement on hearsay and conjecture.
You wonder what is killing Wal-Mart fish? Here is my conjecture:
They probably don't quarantine, medicate, buy quality livestock, feed properly, have properly educated staff, or provide specific environment for species.
If it is a central system type rack, then without medicating the whole unit, disease can spread thru quite easily. I see this at our local Petco occasionally. If it's lucky enough to have a UV unit are the bulbs getting changed annually?
