i know this is dumb but i'm at my wit's end today so i apologize if this is incredibly stupid. basically i just tried to move my canister filter and it spewed water everywhere all over my bed.

i had tried to detach the tubes that connect to the intake and outtake and one of them came off and started spewing water out. i quickly held my thumb over the hole but yeah it just kept coming. i stood there in shock for like 2 minutes. i quickly put the tube back on and it stopped and all is well now....except my bed is drenched in dirty filter water.

the canister filter has been turned off and unplugged for a few weeks though! i wasn't using it but i wanted to move it and turn it back on. how do people do that??? how are you guys moving your canisters? what am i missing??

thanks to anyone who can help!

What kind of canister filter? (Most have shut off valves close to the connection to the canister. With those on the off position, just the small amount of water contained in the hose itself should have spewed out).
If no valves, then with the filter off, one should first remove the intake and outlet from the aquarium, then disconnect the hoses and then move the filter. Some have a drain valve so you don't have to move the full filter, as that can also be difficult and risky depending on its size.
About the bed - dirty filter water from a filter that has been off but full for some days?...Ouch.

Water kept coming because it's still syphoning off the tank. Remove the intake and return from the tank and you can move it wherever you want. If you're keeping it on the same tank, you can leave them in there and just be careful not to detatch the hose again.
