Gold nugget L081 gets my vote:D. 14" max size. Beautiful pleco.

I dont think L081 Gold Nugget gets to 14"..... cuz they get as big as maybe 7".....
Goldie pleco L-014 however.. gets to about 12" -14" ish... those are the huge guys... I think your 55g would be great for 1-2 medium size pleco... I'll do albino sailfins or L-200... There are more exotic types.. but most of them are the 10" range... but it takes pleco years to grow to that size... 6 years at least..

Anyways.. i'll go with something small... but if u want to upgrade later.. u can invest in the fancys...

there are 3 types of gold nugget, (L018, L081 and L177) 2 stay small, one gets big but being baryancistrus sp. they are extremely slow growers.
a nice, bold and colourful pleco that is what i would say is mid sized, is L075, para plec, they shouldn't cost too much either

i would say stick with bristlenose plecos considering you have bichirs....many plecos will suck off the slime coat of bichirs....all but the bn anyway (for the most part, this is a generalization though and all fish have their own individual personality

its very very rare for any plec to suck the slime coat off any other fish, i think i have heard of 3 or 4 occassions where this has happened, and in all honesty, one of the worst culprits can be common bn males. but as cusccrstud says, we can only generalise, each individual is different to the next so its hard to say which pleco will get on best with other fish

L200 common names: Green or yellow phantom, lemon spot pleco, and there are more but none come to my head.

I've heard that plecos that suck slime coat are generally under fed, I believe there is a thread about this as well
