I have a 55 gallon with a ornate bichir, senegal bichir, and a silver aro. I've been wanting to get a pleco but not one that gets super huge. Any good recommendations? I want to stay in the 10-60 dollar range. Thanks!

you have an aro in a 55 and you are worried about how big the pleco gets??????? :screwy:

I have a jardini and don't want a pleco that gets huge.
But the website is correct the small dotted gold nugget I have only gets 7" which makes me like him a little more. But besides that I have a royal too which is another good looking pleco but they get big. Can always switch them out later as they grow. Bought both of them about the time I started on this site. The royal was about 3" and is barelly hitting the 5" mark now and the gold was 2" and is 3" now. So there is an idea on their growth. And btw they don't leave strings of poop all over.

You could try a Tiger pleco, they are not very expensive and could live in a 55 their whole life.

A well fed pleco won't bother other fish, if they are starving they will come after other fish. They need more then the alge growing the tank, feed them like any other fish.

not to derail, just wanted to help you out..... what you need to worry about getting too big is the aro

:iagree: there are plenty of plecos that fit your wants. but maybe these aren't the needs. or maybe you have a bigger tank hiding!

From past experience, I personally like 'rubber plecos'. They tend not to grow no more than 5 inches, have a nice pattern, and keep glass and rock work clean of algae. Look up the species on www.PLANETCATFISH.com.

watch out, some plecos have a taste for slime coat. Mine does, his tank mates don't let him do it, buty because of it I will not house him with my ornate.
