Pleco not growing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have seen common plecs grow to enormous sizes in 40g breeders...Granted you may see better growth in an outdoor setting, you could put him in your koi pond for the summer months; if you think you can remove him come fall(which can be difficult)
I guess I'm forgetting that fish don't grow to the size of the tank...

I bought a used 40g acrlyic that someone had been keeping two 7yr old butterfly koi and a massive common plec probably 18in, the poor fish had to swim vertical in the tank to turn around. The lady keeping the fish seemed to love them but didnt the knowledge to care for them.

That's terrible.

My pleco does not eat that much. I will increase water changes. I am feeding hikari algae wafers. I have never seen him eat.
Try out the sinking cichlid gold. That's like the magic substance. I'm telling you.

I have tried sinking hikari lionhead and he does not eat that. He is not that big. I hope he starts growing.
If you have the money try a bag of hikari gold. If he doesn't eat it the others will.
