Pleco not growing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a chocolate pleco in my 40 breeder with some barbs and it grew to 10 inches from 1 inch in a year. I t is now 14 inches another year later. It is in a 75 with some cichlid growouts.I feed NLS exclusively and weekly water changes of 25%. You need to do weekly water changes get a good quality food and dont overfeed. That is your promblem with your pleco.

I guess I forgot to mention, I also feed NLS. The pleco gets a mix of Hikari, NLS, and vegetables. I also do daily %40 water changes, although I'm sure not everyone has the time for that. %25 a week is plenty.

I have a little albino that's not even an inch long and he hasn't grown at all. I'm not sure what kind he is and I've had him for about 5 to 6 months now.

i'm gonna stretch and say it's probably too little too late. If he hasn't grown at all in a year, I really doubt you'll get much more growth if any out of him.

My Pleco only grew 1/3" per month when I had him in a 20 gallon. The nitrates were high and he never really got directly fed. Check your feedings and keep up with water changes, just as Carp should be doing.

You can't drop his hopes yet. The only way we know for sure is by waiting a couple months.
