anyone know if its possible to keep an arrowana/jardini with a pleuro and micro?
or maybe some kind of cichlid....jag, red devil etc...

like everything ron it can be done ,but i may or may not work out , however the two channa you have are by far the easyest to have tankmates with . i kept mine with jardini ,butti ,veijas , midas , jags ,fei feng , with no trouble at all , but it trully depends on the fish , i have had jardinis in the past the would just not tolerate any tankmates , my latest was very peacefull , you would maybee stand a better chance with a black or silver , if anything the cichlids would bully the channa ,you would only need worry when the channa - micros vastly outgrow any of the cichlids the would probably see them as food ,

great fish for the bottom would be birchirs , something like endis most birchirs get along with channa as if they where meant to be together , the fei feng are great as they grow quite quickly eat algae and all leftovers and bother no-one also the channa just seem to ignore them

if you wanted to stay channa a maularoides would be another that is pretty acceptant of other channa

i have tried many combanations over the years ,i have been suprised at some of the combinatons that have just worked , my golden rule is to agree with the lfs ,if you try something and its just not working you can return it (within reasonable time) my lfs is really good for this

hope whatever you decided on works out for you , i think just try and stay away from anything that is overly aggressive

cheers col

thanks col. i would like to put an arro in there with them as they are lovely fish, but i just dont want the micro to one day (when hes huge) decide he cant be arsed to share his tank with him anymore lol. correct me if im wrong but when a micro gets 2ft+ i thought it would be a case of what the micro will allow in HIS tank lol
i wouldnt have thought anything would stand a chance against one, thats why i was considering a jar, coz they are more aggressive than the silvers so may stand more of a chance if the micro got nasty

some have been known to become more and more aggressive with age , personally i have never had a micro kill anything that has been in the tank with him and i have found that even with age mine have never been overly aggresive and if anything become a bit lazy ,spending most of the time lazing about on the botton level of the tank , total opposite of what they are now ( if one paired up that would be a whole diferant story ), but if a large one did decide that he wanted to kill something ,i dont think there is much out there that could stop it , however i have seen many setups where people have sucsesfully kept micros with other large fish , gars are a faverate ,and i have seen a few with arrows , if you decide on a jardini now is the time to add it , it will have pretty similar growth rate if fed well ,and hopefully learn to accept tankmates ,

overall i would say jardinis are more aggressive than micros , i would say it would be worth giving a try as jardinis are fantastic fish ,very underated

thanks tropheus
i was always led to believe micros were far more aggressive to what they actually are.
i might just add a silver arro then, plus if the worst did happen at least its a cheaper meal than an asian arro...lol
I think what i will do is add the arro when they move to their big tank, at the moment they are just in a 3ft grow out tank, and the pleuro doesnt take to new tank mates very well, he relentlessly attacked the micro when i first added the micro (bite marks on head and back). i had to take them both out and put them in a new tank together at the same time to neutralise them, since then they are like best mates, and now are back in the origional tank the pleuro was in with no aggression to each other.

what about a p-bass as another alternative?
they arent aggressive but can reasonably defend themselves and generaly get quite big

i think i will try one of them aswell then when they go into their big tank.
getting quite a mixed tank going here...lol

stingrays?

ive asked this question before but not on here. would a s'head bother a stingray?
