that hole is made for an airline to inject air into the water stream as bubbles , it will decrease the flow of water , I actually capped mine with an expandable foam earplug used in factories for hearing protection , squeese it and stick it in , it will expand and seal the hole , not too deep though

When you see water gushing out of a powerhead, that means a lot of force is coming out. When the water is standing still, the powerhead is weaker. This is not rocket science.

When I put an airline tube on the hole uncapped, water gushes out rather than the water standing still without an airline tube.

Just to clarify. I want to cap the hole that's for the airline,so that i have more water flow into the filter.Adding air into the air hole will displace water and should result in less flow, not more.

And another thing, if you put an airhose in the hole, leave the airhose uncapped that is when you get the most power. Have the airhose above the water level and not too long.

I get the most power from my powerheads this way. I see the water gushing out rather than the water staying still.

To the OP, what part of this did you not understand.

Test it yourself, put an airhose uncapped and see if you get a more powerful powerhead. If you dont believe me, just do it your way.

Every powerhead if bought brand new has an air hose and an adjuster to adjust the power. The airhose is there for a reason. If the adjuster is taken out, that is the max power.

I dont care anymore, you guys do what you want.

And why did you put an airhose in it when other people told you I did not know what I was talking about?

Nevermind, I better go..

Gee, I think the manufacturers have it wrong! After all, they did make this and test it! WITHOUT AIR---400GPH, WITH AIR!!!---348GPH!! WHAT PART DID YOU, NOT UNDERSTAND?!?!

some folks are set in their ways. haha!

LOL, I love these boards. I have been running powerheads for more than 10 years and people are telling me that I do not know what I am talking about.
A question I ask myself, do you own any powerheads? I run about 12 powerheads on 5 of my fish tanks. A airhose are on all of them because thats when you get the most power.
I love these boards too. a lot of misinformation floating around.
