This is exactly the same size pond as im building, starting with alot of frames interlocked together then lining the whole inside with insulation then boarding it all and finally epoxy resin to make it water tight, im also planning a window but not sure how big to go or how to actually fit it. Thats what im currently looking into atm, i was going to be lazy and just buy a large Koi quarantine pond lol but i thought it would take all the fun out of the design ;).

I dont really understand what your question is though, i have read through the thread and cant really see what it is your trying to say. Sorry matey but my brain isnt fully functional today could you break it down a little so i could poss see what your saying.

Thats a damn good point, I never thought about it like that!

thats cool

Thanks, I just hope I can make it look like the picture in my head!

What i mean is putting the frame on the inside good or bad? And 2ft pond, 2ft glass tank and 3ft flower garden or should it be 3ft ply tank with 4ft window then 1ft glass tank with 3 ft green house glazing above that?

I'm leaning toward the first option at the minute, but it means I'm gonna have to save a month or two for the glass cause it'll be 500 quid. It needs to be quick cause my fish are rapidly outgrowing the 180, and the beauty is I can build the pondy bit and the lid, seal it and they can live in there while I save for the glass.

Approx Costs:

wood 50 quid
ply 70 quid
sealer 150 quid
1st round of glass, 500 quid
second layer glass 50 quid

Total cost ~830 squids

Anyone know how to work out the thickness required for a totally submerged window? Say ~2' by 2' 4ft below the water mark?

i would not go interior i would go internal by this i mean build a frame then attach the wood inside and cover the frame on the outside to make it look good

any window is better than no window

Yeah, Bass-Lover told me hed punch me if I didnt conform so I'm gonna do it like that. Still having the 2ft of glass round the top, but want to put a window in the bottom half pondy bit...

That means the bottom of the windo will be under 4ft of water... 15mm or will it have to be 19mm?

 Just cause your making me look bad I'm not going to give you an answer to your question :irked:

:D Have a nice day!! :headbang2

Oh, I'm sorry bass lover, I admit you didnt coerce me that much, but I was soooo convinced it was a good idea...

Never mind though cause I've had an even better idea!!!! Check this out dudes and dudettes. Its a novel way of sealing the ply. I'm gonna use clay, go dig an olde tonne of it up and smear it a few cms thick all round the frame!!!! Its the way nature does it, What do you think? Am I a genius or a mongoloid? How do I add a new poll?

:grinno: Won't work.. I'm to lazy to repost my PM to you LOL even though I thought you were looking to use this just as a substrate ... still the same idea though... as well at the clay needs to saturate for prob a few feet and still leaches water through slowly

Shot down in flames AGAIN! :ROFL:I'd still have the liquid rubber underneath, but a few cms of clay should take a lot of pressure off the seams between the ply sheets, no?
