Plywood or cement concrete and why?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd use plywood even though concrete would be better. That way in case you move, you can take the tank down.

concrete is stronger. With large tanks the pressure causes the wood to bow. You have to build it ridiculously reinforced. You may not be planning to move but "stuff" happens.

I have to say it all depends on the individual. I have a pond, didn't factor in all the little earthquakes we have. Now I have to tear all the tile off my pond layer a level of concrete and seal it with poxy. Before I can do this I am building a 4x8 wood tank to house my fish and of course get more fish...lol secondly would be preference of view some people like to see their fish at all angles, buddy of mine likes to sit back in his chair and look up at his fish. Just my opinion.......Bill

If youre 50/50 then go with your skills. Are you better at working with wood or concrete? Apply your strengths, work around your weakness.

hmmm if i calculate the cost theres another plus for concrete!
I believe that plywood would be a lil more expencive.
Of course cheaper isn't always the best...
