Plywood tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well after 6 cans of foam I'm still not quite done but Easter Dinner is a couple hours away so the rest is going to have to wait. There seems to be a lot of interest in smoothing Great Stuff out. It dries smooth if that is what you guys mean. If you're referring to the size of the rocks being created you just hold the straw on the can still and you can blow a ball of this stuff as big as a basketball if you want. Personally I like the illusion of lots of smaller rocks piled together. Here's a couple of pictures showing my progress so far.

I didn't take any pics of it but I also ran a some aquarium hose through the eggcrate and strategically placed some air stones in different places. You can just see the top of one of the airstones in the close up pic.

I finished putting Great Stuff on the background this morning. Ended up taking a lot more than I first thought it would. In the end I needed 3 16oz cans and 4 20oz cans, so around $70.00 invested so far in this part of my project. I'm happy with the way it has turned out tho. I'll let it dry over night and the next step will be bring it to dad's place so and saw it into sections on the band saw so it'll fit into the aquarium.

great build. the diy background looks good. the only thing keeping me from doing it other than lack of work is the concrete and the cure time.

I'd be interested to wee what this will look like if painted. At lease, I hope you are going to paint it.
