Poorly planned at best. Tank up for one day before you dumped that massive bioload into it? I had to take my fish home as well and I had his tank cycling 4 and a half weeks before.

well i thought i was going to be able to take my 75 gal home with me and let my fish spend a couple weeks in my buddies tank until the 75 was cycled... then i was told not to risk breaking the 75 by my parents and i couldnt bring it home.... my buddies tank just broke when a man working for the cable company knocked over his stand... aquarium is being replaced by the man, but all of his fish died and he hasnt gotten a new tank yet. Terrible coincidence, long story short, what do i do?!
That's some pretty **** luck and sketchy planning. I'd take the filter cartridge off your dad's tank and put it on the 30 you've got your fish in. At least that would give you some beneficial bacteria to break down some waste products. Continue with the water changes, but be sure to treat the water so you don't get an ammonia or chloramine spike from the tap. Maybe move the pleco into your dad's tank because of your four fish it seems like that's the one that would be best in there. Also reduce feedings- not to a point of starvation, but minimal necessary feedings.
A suggestion for next break, you have been better just leaving the fish there for a month, turning the heater down a couple notches, and throwing in some quick feeders or getting one of those automatic feeders for $20.

Do they actually turn off or just tell you to unplug everything? At ND, we had to unplug everything but they had to leave power on so pipes wouldn't freeze and burst. I imagine your school would have similar concerns if it's up in your home state.
I think we get written up if we dont unplug everything. Im bringing up a 55 tank for the room also. Its a acrylic cube one that i got for free from a friend whose mom used to have pacu in it until she upgraded.
