Plz hlp why is my tank so messy?!?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To me, it sounds like the deeper gravel will hold more of the debris from the tank, hence making it appear cleaner. I would make sure to gravel vac it really well when you clean the tank.

like i said this is TEMPORARY and there was no way around it..... it has a hob filter that rins on both sides of the "tube sucking the crap" and i change the water daily which seems to stress them out. i had the tank running for a day before i brought them in... i also have another 30 gallon holding an 11 inch oscar and 11 inch pleco.. this is my dads, also temporary for the month of break.. would my fish be ok in there with him? his is a very lazy big oscar, prbly cause he doesnt have enough room to swim, but temporary none the less.

Not to be mean but did i just read this to say ( should i take an already bad situation and make it worse ??) Please listen ... TOO many big messy fish NOT nearly enough tank or water. Go to your nearest quality LFS and see if they will house them for you in an adequate tank. Take dads too because they are over crowded as well, if you and dad cant afford (Like Me) to buy bigger tanks, Leave them at the LFS, they will be better off.

Remove all but a handful of gravel. When there is substrate, the crap and uneaten food gets wedged in. Either use a sump and get sand or remove the gravel. But you can leave a handful of gravel in for the 0scar to "play" with.

There is nothing like an uncycled tank to make life bad for your fish...Not only are they stressed now, but by time winter break is over, you get to stress them out some more at school...they might not make it twice in a row...
OK here is what you do...Go and get a bottle of SeaChems "STABILITY"
nothing else, no substitutes...
Do a water change and follow the label to the "T"...your fish will do as well as can be expected, and be sure to bring it with you when you go back to school. Your filters there will need to be sterilized and restarted...a filter that has been left to die off, if restarted without a thorough cleaning will poison the tank. They will be new and un-cycled after the cleaning, but the "STABILITY" will take care of that for you...

if its only temporary, why not go get a big rubbermaid of something like that? just cover the top..

thank you i will definatly try the stability, and because temporary is a month, i dont think a rubbermaid would do so well

i'd agree with using some rubbermaid tubs for the time being with some established filters on them. you can get large sizes dirt cheap at good ol' wally world.
