yes personally I would talk with them about switching to a mainly fruit fly diet. I am not saying the occasional crickets are bad but as a main diet the frogs tend to live shorter lives and become obese. Along with that, frogs fed only crickets usually show some signs of liver or kidney disease.
Also if you can talk them into it I would happily send you some cultures and supplies to get you / them started.
Each type of frog has a different personality. Some being bolder then others. Some being extremely shy. The stress from being crammed into a small conatiner/ tank with a tank mate that they would never even see in the wild causes loss of appetite, listlessness and everntually death.
A pair of frogs can be kept in a 10-15 gal tank. But more room is always better
