poison dart frogs

As far as I can tell the only reason Kearth says it's a bad idea to mix is because the species may breed with each other and create hybrids - while some may not like that, others may find it an appealing idea, and I don't see it as a reason to tell everyone that mixing two species is a bad idea, assuming of course the appropriate sized enclosure with enough hiding places for the different animals.

so it sounds like one frog is better sorry about earlier but i didnt realize that the yellow ones would fight with the blue ones they are really alike as for the maintance i dont have much expeirience with land animal maintance since my basilisk only defacates in his waterbowl and i have never seen any anywere else but the tank also is hard to keep hummid but wat exactly do i do besides cleaning the vines, plants, rocks, wood and i wasnt origenaly going to get any i was just curious as for food i heard about tiny crickets and fruit flys but how do i breed fruit flys i no for a fact NEVER EVER feed them ants, beetles or anything with venom but wat other foods are safe

To really dumb it down...(Not sayinganyone here is dumb)...alot of the species go for height over width, so most tanks are tall. Then you have to decide if you are doing a planted tank or not. Planted inifinitely looks better, so why not. Then, you have to decide on a misting system...eithe you or automatic...they need high humidity. then you need to decide how many PDFs you are keeping...three of one type is a good idea. Be preared, since some of their calls(mating) can be loud...

Fruit flys...i have never actually made a culture, but here is the thing...you dont make sure your cage is fruit fly proof, then uh oh...your house/room/apartment is infested...

I can't stress enough how high maintenecethese guys are...you cannot forget to feed them one time, or forget to mist them one time. Never underestimate the value of reading...read as many posts as you possibly can on dendroboad before you even decide a type of PDF, then start narrowing down your reading to that exact type...

Hopefully that helped...if not, ask more questions and I will try to answer or get the answer for ya :nilly:

thank u i feed my basilisk crickets now wich i just let wonder around in thetank but i used to put mealworms in its bowl every morning but she got uninterested but feeding is one of my least concerns but i dont know about vacations but i just am more worried about the maintance but i have changed my mind they are pretty cool frogs but i have a brackish, freshwater and basilisk tank so i dont have the time right now for maintance i was just looking into wat types u can put together if i got any but ill look into it

Research, research, research….

There are many reasons why mixing two random species of dart frogs is a bad idea… But that does not mean that in every situation mixing is a bad idea…

I oppose hybridization, as most people do… but as you said you do not wish to breed, so this is a moot point.

Sticking 2 frogs of two species in a fairly bare 30~40 gal tank is asking for trouble… but putting two males of one species and two males of another species, taking the time to research the species so you choose compatible species, taking time to research tank planning to create décor that will support 4 frogs, etc, etc… will allow a 40 gal tank to hold 4 frogs…

If you just slap it together and pick species based on appearance, you’ll screw yourself… If you take the time to educate yourself on the animals you wish to keep and keep them based on their needs, you’ll enjoy some amazing little creatures…

i was planning on maybe getting a vivarium but now that in thinking about it i am going to be getting a larger encloser for my basilisk so if i put plexi glass on the wire mesh areas of my 60-75 gallon long tank i have my basilisk in now would it hold at least 4 frogs a pair of two compatable species but the question is how to stop breeding ??

Read up on how to breed them... then deny them with a critical necessity...

I can think of a couple, but telling you would deny you the educational opportunity ;)
