50 cent!! You gotta give the guy some credit for being shot 9 times. And shouldn't we add Justin beiber into this mix?
Lol I wasn't aware being shot a number of times made a person a great rapper, hope you were joking.

Hip hop has been dead for years and now this current skinny jean non lyrical generation has further buried it.

Nas, Jay Electronica, Little Brother, Mos Def and Kendrick Lamar are the only cats I listen to now.

rarely do i hear a little brother shout out. just was bumpin the minstrel show today! 9th wonder did amazing things on that album

I listen to all kinds of rap music dating back from Grandmaster Flash, Whodini and Eazy-e all the way to the new generation of rap. But my favorite rap artist is Dre Dog AKA Andre Nickatina from Frisco

Paw, no offense but this guy is greatly misinform aka an idiot. i'd say probably 90 percent of dre's hits were written for him and this guys going down the "not everything was written for him" line? so you wanna give dre credit for the 10 percent he probably slightly edited or bit off? just let the topic go bro. you're dead wrong

*high five* :D glad to see some love for doom on here, a bit surprised at that.

and to the sausage pizza, I do enjoy dr. octagon (post-insanity kool keith) quite a lot, particularly Earth People and Blue Flowers. I'm not sure I would say that he is a really high-caliber rapper, though.

As for the classic rap albums, it's gotta be
1. Ready To Die
2. Illmatic
3. The Chronic

honorable mention: Big L - Lifestylez ov da Poor and Dangerous

I am sure that Tupac deserves a high regard, but I don't really feel him anymore.

Pudgeking, i wouldn't consider him higher caliber rapper either. In fact, some crap he says is downright dumb. But that's what i like about him. "space doo-doo pistols" lol.

can't forget about the beasties everybody!

I've also been into Saul Williams, immortal technique, Sage Francis, Del.

there's a lot of good underground hip-hop out there that I'm still discovering. I'm hoping to get some more good suggestions from this thread.

I concur about beasties, I had left them out since I was thinking about individuals and not groups but they are by far my favorite group. I can still put on license and Paula boutique on and listen to them over and over just like I did when they were first released.

For your list, Em all the way. His older stuff was much better. I have been listening alot to (rap metal) Hollywood Undead.

Regarding Tupac and Biggie, they can not and should never be considered greatest IMO. They got their fame because they died while "living the life". Both sold more dead than alive by a long shot, and neither really had skill. Tupac was definitely better than Biggie but neither where "epic". Good? Yes, Ill listen to them from time to time. Greatest ever? Not by a long shot.

Now for most new music Em said it best.

All I see is sissies in magazines smiling
Whatever happened to whylin out and bein violent?
Whatever happened to catchin a good-ol' fashioned
passionate ***-whoopin and gettin your shoes coat and your hat tooken?

Man Eminem is a sensationalist prick with considerable talent and no class in comparison to Biggie, but maybe it's just a new yorker thing... and maybe I just find Eminem's voice and personality irritating. You say Biggie and Pac got their fame because they died, but it's more like they died as a result of their fame. They attained fame because of their great talent, skill, and magnetism.

As for the eminem lines you quoted... ehh
