A Porgy is actually a gamefish in the Northeast. Also known as Scup in some areas.
The baitfish you might have been thinking of is called a "Pogie" also known as Menhaden or Bunker.

As for popularity I have to agree with whoever said that people are just basing it on what they prefer. But I said cichla anyway

Not paying much attention, I'd go with a tie between pbass and dats. Bass for the azuls mainly even though it seems to have died down do to needing "The Hook Up". Dats because of their nature, markings and potential size 'cause of their slow growth.

I think too many people are voting based on their preference, not what actually is popular. The fish I can't resist right now is big loaches, but I don't think they are anywhere near as sought after as Cichla or Datnioides.

That's what I did......voted for the loach. Couldn't vote against them, plus I skip over a lot of posts that involve cichla and other fish that I don't have or want.

I would vote for loaches too, but i think if you gave most people the choice, they would take a $50 Dat over a $50 loach. Not me.

stripers will eat scup and make great baitfish... however i do fish for scup as well, so i guess they are gamefish.

Grilled fish are not hot among fishkeepers, guppy. Maybe I didn't specify "aquarium trade". LOL

Grilled fish is still the hottest rage here together with the grilled chickens.
