IMG_8580.JPG IMG_8582.JPG Starting to really darken up! And fatten up quite a bit, Super stoked about this little beast. Not the easiest fish to photograph in a fairly dim tank however. The camera has a really hard time focussing on a black fish with any black object in the background. Can't wait for it to graduate to the big tank eventually. Chowing down on hikari gold mini and sinking carnivore pellets along with chopped krill, tilapia and bloodworms

He looks great, underrated fish IMO. The only thing I would recommend is feeding NLS, not Hikari. NLS is simply nutritionally superior. I don't mean to step on your toes as I know this isn't your first rodeo. Just a friendly recommendation :)

kewpiefishypewpie kewpiefishypewpie I'm just doing the hikari for now because I bought 5lbs of it a month ago. So far his main diet has really been the tilapia and krill. I might snag a bag of NLS though. I've been wanting to compare it to hikari and see if my other fish will take it.

magpie magpie exactly like an oscar. Actually my girlfriend thought it was a weird spotted oscar since it acts the same as the baby oscars at the store. Begging, chasing fingers, always watching what you do. I really can't believe these aren't more popular!

I heard somewhere that they were referred to as Malagasy Oscars when they first made it to USA. I only feed my Polleni NLS they love it.

I think they get overlooked maybe because they're African? People associate African cichlids with the lake ones. They associate fish that act more like the Polleni with central and south American cichlids.

Maybe?

It's kind of hard to say, I could think they're underrated/underappreciated but that's just based off of my fish social network I guess you could call it. This sub forum is probably one of the least active, which I believe makes them seem underappreciated-at least on this site. The fact that they're never sold at petsmart/co kind of gives the illusion that they're rarer than they are, but they're readily found online. It's all subjective.
