Wow, it sounds like he really got the perfect fish. RTCs are great for people who are lazy and don't maintain their tanks. They stay small too. NO. This honestly makes me kind of sick.

he has other fish like tiger shovel nose round about 3ft, Pegasus about a ft, 3 tiger oscars, he has more but cant remember wot he has. his rtc is about 3ft but its not nice 2 see cuz the rtc and tiger shovelnose struggles 2 turn at the tank is 6 ft length 2ft wide, 2ft high.

i have tryied tellin him but he dont take no notice cuz he says he wont get the money he want 4 the rtc and shovel nose :screwy:

I can't even picture that lot in a 6x2x2, there must be more fish than water in there! Shame the RSPCA don't do fish cause that's just sick imo. No one will pay for those poor fish cause they'll be in poor condition due to the small tank and they're going to die a slow horrible death. If he ever sees sense and wants them out then let me know and i'll take them.

Back on topic, the rtc will out grow and eat the poly's.

well I've just taken a walk into lfs yesterday, and I checked into the RTC they have. Then I saw such a massive RTC around 40" in a sad 300 galls tank. It is now making me worry about their growth rate, soon or later I will have to let them go couse I still prefer having bichirs in my tank, and I cant imagine how much food it takes to have even 1 RTC.

I recommend that prior to purchasing a young RTC, the prospective buyer take a look at a full-grown specimen in public aquaria or an LFS. I have a feeling that fewer would be sold if this was done. Often, prospective buyers are warned that they get "big," but it's often hard to wrap one's mind around just how "big" that is.

It will not work. Even the biggest bichirs such as the congi, pbb, ansorgii and endli will take many years to get up to 20"+ (Probabaly 2.5-3 years or more). The RTC will get to that size in no time, outgrow the bichirs and eat them whenever it feels like it.

They do grow slow as heck dont they.
