I just saw them once in our local shop, in Germany Bichirs are not that popular except the senegals.

Are the Delhezi more or less active Polypterus?



IMO the Delhezi and ornatipinnis are the most beautiful Polypterus, but for ornatipinnis i find the tank too small.
I‘ll try to make it look like a biotope with many woods and big african plants.
So i think 5 should be ok if I add a group of bushfish too.

But it can grow up to 18“ right?
Can i keep it together with the bushfish, i think there‘s a risk that the Ornatipinnis tries to attack the bushfish.

Can i keep ornate bichir in a group or should they stay alone? I heard they can be aggressive to each other.

Yes there's a chance it will attack your bush fish if it doesn't grow faster than the size of the ornate's mouth. If you get full grown bush fishs, there's no chance the ornate could swallow it, but then you would have to get an ornate the size that the bush fish wouldn't eat.

Best if kept alone for their eventual adult size.

Which color ground should i prefer?
I heard that on dark ground the Polis get better coloration and on bright ground it‘s more washed out?
What about red color ground?

best substrate to bring our polypterus colours, is red garnet sand.

I just have another question:
Do Dels also have „problems“ when they are CB?
Like shorter bodys, fat bodys and „frog eyes“ or do they just stay a bit smaller than WC?
I hope you know what i mean with „problems“.
