I am having a 100 gallon aquarium built, which should be due in around 3 weeks. Dimensions are 48" Length x 20" Depth x 24" Height.
I plan to have 1 x Oscar and 2-3 x Firemouth Cichlids. I was wondering would any of the species of Polypterus be compatible with my selected species? The Polypterus I'm looking at are potentially Palmas Palmas, Palmas Polli or Senegalus.

Any advice would be great, thank you in advance.

Would go toward the larger lower jaw polys. Like lapradei and endli. Would be better to deal with a cichlid and a potentially large cichlid.

Mainly cause cichlids can be territorial and larger polys will better handle it. Just IMO.

What about in terms of a Firemouth cichlid? How would they fair in the same tank as the Bichirs you suggested?

When I had Ornates they were the boss of the 180 gallon. Now and then my purple wolfish would flare at the Ornates but nothing physical. Kept a Male Firemouth with my Senegalus and sometimes the Firemouth would be pushy every once in awhile letting them know who's territory they were invading.☺

Do you reckon the Larger Polypterus would try to eat the Firemouth? Or will the Firemouths be able to hold their own with the larger Polypterus?

Also would the 100 gallon tank be big enough for the larger Polypterus? What's the senagalus like in terms of size and temperament?

100g would be more than sufficient for upper jaw species with the exception of a tueg, ornate, and possibly a big weeksii. You might be able to get away with a cb endli since they don't really get as big as their wild counterparts

That's great to know thanks. It seems the Polypterus that seem to be available by where I am are the Senegalus and the Saddled Bichir.
