Why risk it when as said by drgn 9/10 it happens and either have to separate them or replace a dead bichir.
I like plecos, although they crap a lot but i just wont risk it.

10 small bristlenose plecos with 10 baby Bichirs i presume?

Once the Bichirs get bigger they will very likely attempt to eat the BN plecos, and that could very likely kill the Bichirs.

Not a good mix...

10 full grown BN plecos, 10 bichirs ranging from 5-15 inches

I have heard (not seen proven) that Bristlenose Plecos (L144) are safe, as they are the only Pleco that dines exclusively on Algae.

I have personally seen a Bristlenose Pleco happily sucking the slime coat off of a fish so recently dead that it wasn't quite dead yet.

I Will not be trying it.

There are dozens of specias of pleco that are mostly vegetarian. The only ones I know of that regularly turn down meaty foods are the Farlowellas. All the bristlenose I've kept have eagerly taken bloodworms. Many are also almost pure wood eaters (Panaque).
I'm curious how many people have actually witnessed a pleco sucking on a bichir? Everyone says it happens, and most avoid keeping them together, but who has actually had it happen? I've never seen it myself, but have seen goldfish with marks on their side from a common and had one customer whos discus had been regularly chased by one, but I've never seen a bichir with marks, or know anyone personally who has had it happen.

I wonder, why won't the bichir fight back at the plecos?

I think it tends to be more of the lazier species of Bichirs that will get their slim coat sucked on. I've had Delz, Sen, Ornate, and Polli in with 3 Plecos and nothing goes wrong. And those species of Bichirs tend to be more on the active side.
