Poly's are my new favorite fish!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bloodworms are probably one of the more cleaner frozen foods. Mine didn't eat pellets at first so I just let them get real hungry before I fed them rand it worked.

very nice looking tank. I have never owned Poly's but from being on the site a while I notice people get really hooked on them. Like potato chips nobody can own just one. Never owning one I don't know why and I don't have room in my tank to find out for myself what makes them so great. So what is it that makes Poly's "your new favorite fish" They do look cool especially the ornate ones but what is it about them that makes them so addicting?

Can't explain it lol just go by 1 that's all it will take lol .... Go to petsmart get the 6$ Senegal from them and give it 3 months tops and u will find your self wanting and dreaming of much more of them .... But I honestly can't explain it man they r just awesome u really can't own just 1

Will try to starve them starting from a week from now, then I'll see if I can get them to eat pellets.

He was delivered with truck from Sweden in a bag, took almost 48 h.
Out of 300 ish fish, only a handful died during shipping, and mostly guppys.
And if they survive shipping, chances are they'll do just fine, at least this is my experience for the last 10 months of working there.
I'm very careful regarding water maintenance and introduction into new tank.

I prepared the tanks at work for almost 2 weeks before fish arrived.

Why I think polypterus are my favorite fish?

I think it's mostly their looks, and when I see the endlicheri emerge from the plants to gulp some air, it looks like a mythical creature. Really cool to watch. They are otherwise rather calm and peaceful creatures and are just chilling. But drop some food in the tank, and the whole tank becomes active. Everything that hides comes out and swims around. I only get the enjoy the tank for two hours after work, but Sunday's I do my water changes and let the light go on a couple of hours earlier and put on my earphones and relax in front of the tank most of the day and play games on my iPad.

Now I think it's more enjoyable to watch the tank then before. Tetras and angels I get to watch at work all day long , the show tank at my work basically have the same fish setup that I used to have.

Also, I'm really considering adding a black ghost, they have started to grow on me.

i have a black ghost knife with my bichirs and they get along for the most part. They have some disputes over the ghost knifes cave, but the ghost knife always wins. As far as food the ghost knife is much quicker about getting to the pellets i drop in as is the gourami i keep them with. prepare to overfeed to keep your bichirs fed.

No problems regarding lack of food...
Sometimes I feel guilty feeding them, they get large bellies after feeding time.

I drop 2-3 blood worm cubes, 5-6 beef heart cubes a day. Not counting the food I give for my hujeta's and butterfly fish.
Also got freeze dried shrimps, dead crickets and some type of larvae (dead) and live black soldier larvae, will try that and report tomorrow.
