Pond filter vs sump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
More flexibility with a sump, plus you can design it to hold a lot more bio media........dollar for dollar

There's pond filters that are just above and beyond but there price tags match. A sump is my choice on anything to big for a Hob. I'm not a fan of canisters

Like I said, "dollar for dollar" sump wins hands down

IMO a DIY pond filter will work just as well as a sump, a sump is just easier to assemble and hide for aquariums.

One day I wouldn't mind have both as I find pond filters can be great for mech and SCs over sumps but id prefer to keep my bio in a sump.

I think a DIY pond filter will also be cheaper then a sump :P

What do you mean by DIY pond filter? I picture a pond filter as a pool filter and am not able to imagine a way of making my own. I use sumps but have been giving thought to trying a pond filter.

Ah, a lot of koi sites etc I go on they will use barrels and create DIY filters from these, there are many different types this is normally used to avoid buying the lugana pond filters or other manufactured ones, due to the price of course and size.

some methods are quite in depth, some are simple but they all work great ( https://www.google.com.au/search?q=...iBYWhige20YDgAQ&ved=0CDIQsAQ&biw=1887&bih=914)

Theres so many different types but if you just type in DIY pond filter it will come, DIY birdman pond filter is a very good design also.

the K1 methods are crazy, they are using air blowers per a single barrel to move the k1.

I'm one of those crazies. AP60 pushing 100 liters of K1. It takes a whole 8 hours to go from an unmeasureable amount of ammonia to zero. Seems to work fairly good.
