what parts of the desert have you lived that got hotter than mesa....i bet not here where i live

Ive been stationed in Ft. Irwin, Ca, (death valley), been there when its hit 132, also been to Iraq a few times when it got nearly as hot. Thats hotter than you have gotten by a few degress. So yes, Ill take that bet...:grinno:

yeah our avaerage is about 10* hotter than phx or mesa in the summer.....but you cant beat death valley.....i was here when it hit 128* though......sorry to side step back to O.P.

I'm sure pools get into the 90's, but they are usually sited in full sun and have little to no coverage or relief. Very little areation too.

Providing some shade in the form of Lillies, Lettuce and Hyacinth of 50% surface area or better will keep the water temps. cooler. The plants maybe hard to maintain as the Koi get bigger, but they should work for a few years until the surrounding landscaping fills in. This leads to a good reason for a skimmer to catch all the fallen leaves from near by planted trees. The depth of the pond also will help regulate temps. A decent drop of the return into the pond will maintain higer levels of oxygen during the hottest times of the year.

Thanks again Muske!! I should fly you out so I can pick your brain! Im putting a few mid size palms in those decrotive jars, i guess, around the pond for some shade. Also saving my water bottles so I can put a little floating island in it. Also, filter is put together, just waiting for the GG to seal and cure, then I got 2 more things 2 seal it (fish friendly). Ill post pics probably on Sunday of the finished filter.. (130 gallon)!

Filter pics will be put up this week..Water tested sunday, had 3 pin hole leaks, so resealed...post pics soon
