well i finally started my pond project, its going to be 25' by 11' by 4' deep maybe 6' since i have the backhoe for 8 hours tomorrow. we will see depending on how fast it can dig. heres some pix of the start. if anyone wants to chip in ideas of what to put in it? im open to suggestions, right now im thinking maybe 10-12 koi. its not going to be a "koi" pond however. its kindof a cross between a watergarden and a koi pond. it will make more sense as i post pix

Mahseers work great in socal ponds. Just make sure you got good filtration. That's a great size pond.

ill let the pictures do the talking, since i had the backhoe we ended up digging a little more than we planed for lol. i will post pics as the build progresses, but its gonna slow down a little bit now since i have to finish shaping the interior and the shelves by hand and plumb in the bottom drain and SC. the pictures arent in order, sorry about that, and i cant really get a shot of the entire dig since its almost 30' long.

thanks.. im about to go back out and start shaping it, but ya after calculating the volume im probably gonna end up with around 9000 gallons

Looks like a great start.

Where do all the spoils (extra soil) go? Start of a waterfall/slide......

Concrete or EPDM?

The only suggestion I have as of now is make sure to slope the bottom towards the BD.

its all going to be spread out around the other yard, not sure exactly how yet but i will post pix. its gonna be EPDM liner pond with bottom drain and right now im hand shaping to pond to slope towards where i will put the drain. i should have updates within a week or so. its just a lot of dirt to move by hand before i will be satisfied with the interior shape.

can you guys guess what this is? :grinno:

hopefully ill get it installed tonight then i just gotta order the liner and the pumps and plumb everything
