:iagree:

I wish I had water in the pond already, definitely would have got some.

Is the convention pretty big? Thinking about heading down. How long wud it take to look it over?

I would go down and just check it out, it was my first time ever going to any sort of koi show/convention and i learned a lot and saw some nice fish!

Liner is ordered! should have water in soon, I also have some questions. I have a tank full of monsters that are going to be way to big for it very soon, water temps in my pool are 60 right now i think the pond will be a bit warmer since it will have a black liner. what would be the lowest temperature that i could put them in the outdoor pond be? I have oscars a pacu and a RTCxTSN they are in a 180 right now and the biggest is the pacu at 12". I need to give them more space and I know they will be fine in the summer, but I want to know when is the soonest i can put them outside.

That's what stock tanks and patio's are for.....

Pacus are notorious liner biters...It could be filleted and feed to the RTC;)
Just Kidding, Pacus are way to tasty to feed to the others.

Sorry. The O might be fine in water in the 60's for a very short period. I saw them in a lagoon in Orlando when air temps. never got more than 65 for a week. Probably closer to upper 50's, was not the best week for FL weather. They were definately swimming slowly, but I also don't have any idea what the water temps. were.

The problem with putting them in the pond is where to house them next winter when the cat is over 2 foot and the Pacu is 10 lbs.? A 220 has the same footprint as the 180, that will buy a little time. Do you have a basement? many stock tank options for the cat.

The pond is going to need several weeks of running and conditioning to know all the kinks are worked out. I would hate to see you put the cat in there only to stress him out because the pond wasn't fully cycled, not to mention the water temps. will probably be to low still. Not to say he can't spend summer camp in the pond, but he will still need to be moved, again.

I have added 2 small pacu to my pond and the water temp is 68F. They are very active and feeding at this temp. I read an Israeli study on overwintering pacu for aquaculture and they found that after their 2nd season Pacu could tolerate brief dips as low as 45F. I'll have to wait until next winter to find out if this is true.

I have read that 55F is the lethal limit for oscars. Although one would think they are probably prone to illness before they get to the lethal temp.

I haven't found any info on RTC temp tolerance. Let us know what you find out.
