I sketched this up as an idea for my pond. I just want to run it by the other DIYers before I start building. It's 8x4x3, 4x4 horizontal and 2x4 vertical. I'll be lining it with 5/8" MDF, styrofoam, and a pond liner (rubber roof). Let me know if you think it'll work (the short horizontal supports look like stacked 2x4s, but I'm planning on using 4x4s on them as well.

sorry for my ignorance, but what will be solid walls of it? that's if you plan on putting solid walling?

EDIT! it'll be the mdf?

Looks feasible, but I would use plywood instead of MDF. MDF falls apart too easily when it gets wet.

i was going to say, lol, that MDF will just suck in all the moisture that comes in contact with it and will expand and fall apart.

Good call on the MDF, wishful thinking on price I guess. Other than that, any concerns?

And midnight, your timber pond would be a bit more expensive lol

That's going to be sweet. When are you starting?

Plain old plywood will work. exterior grade is more expensive and the only thing waterproof is the glue used in it so the wood will still fall apart if its wet for extended periods of time. Also use Deck screws to put the tank together, drywall screws arent meant to hold up to pressure like that. One more thing. If you place the vertical 2x4's at least 12" apart or closer you aren't going to need that center 4x4 bracing just the top and bottom.
