pool filter sand or play sand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i just set up my first sand bottom tank.. pool sand is great.. 50lbs for $6 (its good to know a poolguy)

sand is soooooo much easyer to wash than fluorite.. every 15lb bag of that stuff took like 20 minutes to get clean... the 50lb bag of poolsand took less than 15...

I purchased my pool filter sand and set up my tank. (my buildup with photo's in DIY forum tomorrow:popcorn:) I love the darker color and it took less than 20 minutes to clean per 50 lbs bag ($10.99 per bag). Rubbermaid tub outside, hose, good lookin wife/Coors in hand while washin...

Let me know what you think. I could not be happier with the results.

Before you ask, no, it's not all sand. Sneak peek at the bio-box benieth the sand to use up some volume and keep the sand fresh. :naughty:

i like it, i think im gonna take 8 inch pvc and make some caves under the sand. like cut them in half and bury them. im gonna throw the stuff i did out earlier today when i roll out of bed and start all over without the play sand.

Wow, it took takes 15 minutes to clean a bag of PFS? I cleaned bag yesterday in less than 5. I just take it in the shower and use the attachment fill the bucket of sand up with water and mix it around and dump out the water. I do that about 3 times real quick and that's it. I do love PFS for cleaning though, mainly because if you do manage to lose some it's not all expensive to replace. :)

just setup the new tank with pfs last night. took about 15 minutes for each 1/3-1/2 bucket full of pfs, was pretty easy and the water is crystal clear, i bought 100 pounds and only ended up using about 30 pounds, just a little in the tank, enough to cover the bottom so that i didnt take up too much space since it is only a 75

"Coors in hand" 15 minutes may have been log but since i was using it around the biobox I wanted it to have as many of the small particles removed as I could. My first crack at it so I was not so efficient!
