Pool filter sand Questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Other than price is there any benefit to play sand over pfs?

pea pebbleslook like REALLY small river rock...I THINK A COMBO OF PFS AND PEA PEBBLES LOOKS MOST REALISTIC.... f1 vet has this combo and it looks great.....PERSONALLY I like pea pebbles for ease of maintenance... lots of stuff gets down in it ...BUT its easy to vac andgood circulation helps keep the stuff from accumulating too much...ps pea pebbles can be had CHEAP at home depot:popcorn:

Here's my pea gravel+Pfs+black sand combo.

Pool filter sand is awsome... U can also use sand blasting sand and they have darker colors... But pfs losses the white color after a while especially if u have like black water.... Mine started out white but now its tinted and stained from all the debris and tannins...uploadfromtaptalk1355775336641.jpg as u can see its like a brownish yellow color... Looks really nice. U can tell it used to be white but now its darkenduploadfromtaptalk1355775956043.jpguploadfromtaptalk1355775978659.jpguploadfromtaptalk1355775989849.jpg
As u can tell big difference from the pic with the royal to the others. Overall i would change it out for anythinh

jeez the opinions seem pretty split... one of the main reasons i wanted PFS was because playsand takes longer to sit from what i heard unless obviously you clean it, which can take a while especially if you are filling up a bigger tank which kinda seems like a pain in the ass, but do you think there are different brands of playsand that arent very dirty?

Its not about sit time with playsand... Playsand is too light that it can ruin yoyr filters... Like its almost guaranteed to get in your filters... I havent had any problem woth pfs... And playsand compacts and like if u have rocks or anything the deco will sink into the sand.... Jus dont get playsand its not worth it.... I guarantee it will get in ur filter at somepoint n once its in there its almost impossible to get it all ouy... U can get mpst of ot but not all... My filters stoll make noice every now and then. Jus dont do it lol.

tiller. try to have strong currents blowing across your sand to your filter intake...I never vacuum my sand and it is still pretty nice after one year of not touching anything.
