I dont have the money to be spending over 100$ on sand and wanted to know a smooth pool filter sand that is safe for fish?
Is it fine if I don’t wash it because im starting a new tank and don’t have the patience to wash 100+ lbs of sand and I plan on having a open tank with one decent sized piece of driftwood in the center but if I decide to add some lime stones I have will lay them out first.I found putting your rocks and decorations in first, then laying the sand on top gives it a more natural look. If that is what you are going for.
Ill try and do it the only pain is Im gonna have to transport 100lbs on sand from 2 floors up as there is no bathroom or sink in my basement the hose out side is freezing this is gonna be work but ill suck it up thx for the info.I know it can be a pain, but you will regret it if you don’t rinse it first. Sand always needs to be rinsed well before it’s used. Even then you still might deal with some smaller particles in the water for a bit.

Dang what do u use so hose doesnt spray to hard on sand?Yeah it’s no fun. I washed 150lbs last fall and then 75lbs over the winter. I just put 6” in a 5g bucket at the window and let it overrun while I swish it around with my hand. That worked pretty good. Took forever, but cleaned it up nice.
