I've read of people using pfs, and I was thinking about using it. What do I have to do to it to make it fish safe? Any advice would be great! Thanks :)

All I do with mine is put about 5-10 pounds in a 5 gallon bucket and spray it with a garden hose while running my hands around in it. Poor the water out and do it again and put it in tank. Very easy to clean and settles very fast and doesn't float around like play sand does.

I use a fine gravel.. not sand.. and def not PFS.. I used it once and lost 90% of my stock the next day... some peopel love it.. I won't touch it.

That's what I'm worried about. The price $8 for 50 pounds sounds too good to be true. Anyone else use it? Pros and cons would be great to hear.

I've used it with no ill effects. The reason I went with it was I was putting it in a 300 gallon and I didn't want to clean 300 lbs of play sand which requires many rinses to get clean. The pfs is much cleaner. The only thing is I don't care for the look on its own very much. I feel like its too plain looking. I've mixed mine with a couple pounds of regular sand and very fine gravel and I feel like it has so much more character now. It does stay settled well unlike play sand which blows everywhere in the tank. Hope that helps...

Just put 100lbs in my tank, 2 weeks later no probs and beautiful!

Easy way to rinse: put the bag in ur bathtub, take a knife cut small slits in the bottom of the bag (8-10), open the top of the bag put ur faucet under it and let it rinse for 10-15 min, that way the water goes from top to bottom and in the drain, then just put sand in 5gal and use tupperware to scoop it in the tank, took me 20 min.

The only way pfs would harm ur fish is if it wasn't pre washed, or it was somehow contaiminated or the grains were too small, but I've never heard of it killing stock, it is a VERY popular method among mfkers!

A quick rinse is all mine needed as well before I added it without any issues. It was a little too white for my tastes so I added 20# of tahitian moon sand to the 100# of pfs I already had to give it a cookies and cream type of look.

I have Pfs with discus, payara, and a ray. All sensitive fish, no ill effects. With good rinsing, it hardly even clouded the water when I first put it in.
