Pool filter sand

I honestly don't know what went wrong either. I rinsed the crap out of it... and my fish where all fine before adding the sand.. ( IE 2yrs+ most of them.. so they where not young, or unhealthy ect..) I will note my fire eels died first.. gills where shredded to the point the fish where "throwing up" bloody tissue, and bleeding from their gills visably... Ammonia poisoning doesn't do that. I would also note I DID use the Quikrete... The only thing I can think of is somehow at the home store some chemicals or something got into it that lots of rinsing wouldn't get rid of?.. I used 5 gallon buckets.. and rinsed it until clear.. only adding a few inches at a time... took me over an hour of rinsing iir.

was the most traumatic thing I went threw as a fish owner in 20 not saying not to use sand. I just giving my honest experiance with it.. IMO the few extra dollars for fine quarry rock for me is worth every penny. There are no gurantees. so anyone saying PFS is 100% A-OK is lying.

And QUIKRETE IS NOT POOL FILTER SAND!

PFS is found at pool supply stores, some ppl use quikrete but some of it has additives in it for bonding, only a few kinds of quikrete are actually safe
