I am getting everything together for my 220, I want to do sand because I like the look alot better and I think my puffer would enjoy it more. From experience, which have you found to be the best kind of sand to use? For reference, I will be using 2 Emperor 400's and 1 Rena XP3 Canister. As of right now I will be moving 3 clown loaches, 3 red hooks, and 1 Mbu into the tank. Any help is appreciated.

I currently have play sand, and I kinda wish my sand was a little heavier so not so much of it got sucked up when I was vacuuming.. so I would have to say I wish I would have went with pool filter sand

+1 on pool filter sand. Stuff is amazing - almost impossible to stir up when gravel vaccing or messing around in the tank. Play sand can clog your filter motor when you clean the tank or stir it up.

I just switched to sand this past week. I used filter sand and love it. My pool store had Mystic white brand and it makes the tank pop. Much neater and appears brighter. I did have to clean it though as the sand was stored outside on a pallet under the edge of a roof and was full of dirty water. Weighed prob 80 lbs.. Check my thread under general aquaria about how to clean sand also a picture of end result.

Thanks, that looks great. I have heard, other than your dirty water issue and as stated above by VLDesign, that there is no rinsing needed. Would you all agree?

Pool Filter Sand all the way, with Play Sand you'll always have a slight cloudy haze but not with PFS. Also, if you just dump your PFS in without washing it, it will cloud up your tank. Some fish like my Pacu will stir up the PFS and it gets sucked up in the filter if you are using an extension tube, I'm going to add a sponge to the end and that should take care of that.

Will the pool sand be to heavier to where my Mbu wont be able to blow it away? He has been try to do it to the gravel now with no avail and I would like to make him seem successful. Haha.
