My question is, how am I supposed to get credit for my dead convicts at Petco when the guy who does the test on my water sample thinks that ALL cichlids like a ph of 8 and mine is 7.2?

bring info on the convict with ph thats perferd u know what im saying

Whether or not it was your fault or NOT...the warrenty should still cover it. And they should have books there that tell them the info, so ask him to whip out the book. And in my experience...pH doesn't really matter to cichlids like convicts.

It happned to me, I lost a blue lobster I bought from them since he climbed out and dried up, but they told me to bring water(dont know why) and said no my water was bad, but it wasn't and I told them it dried up, but to them it didnt matter

I've never had to bring in a sample water to any pet stores before. So unless things have changed...I don't know. Just bring in some distilled water next time. I don't trust their tests or their knowledge for that matter.

I work at Petco. Its specific that we cover for fish for 15 days. You should get your refund for the fish. If they act up about it, ask to speak to the manager and make a complaint, and they'll give you a new fish or a refund. :D

first of all I don't think that a pet store should have to refund you for a fish that you killed due to something that they had no control over... If the told you something wrong and that killed it most definitely a refund is in order... if you bought a car from a dealership and wrecked it the next day would you expect a refund NO!

Okay...but how many of them are going to admit their mistakes? The guy told him that the pH killed his fish :screwy: That's just an excuse to find something to refuse service at that point.

Its more along the lines of, if you bought a car that you didn't know the history on and the engine falls out while its parked in your garage, then you deserve the refund.

It is the same way with fish. They bring them in, eather from farms, or from who knows where. you don't know anything about their history and you can't find out.

policy is a policy. ive returned fish with a water sample and had way high nitrates. i dont think they care why the fish died other than that it was miss matched with the wrong type of fish. the only time i dont get the garantee from petco is when i told them i was going to be breeding the fish or puting it in a tank with an unsuitable mate. the reason they want to test the water is so that when you exchange for a new fish it doesnt die from the same water quality problem
