hahahaha, i just found that site last night!! i posted a link for it in the lounge. lol.
Yeah he is awesome!!

im after the servals. he occationally gets good recent captives. so first generation captives!! WOOT!! which means i possibly could get a monster(servals top out around 40 lbs normally, but have been found up to 55 lbs) that is what im after!! i might have to find an appropriate facility to get the 2 years i need for my permit :)

Are you wanting a pet or display serval? I would think the recent captives would be agressive.

im actually looking for a first generation captive breed(ie parents are fresh from wild but young are bottle raised) such as that guy has. normal captive servals reach an average captive max of 40 lbs. but some wild have been found up to 55 lbs. with a recent captive parents i might be able to raise one of the giants.

Good luck with getting that permit.

Did you check with a zoo yet for the two years experience ( I know someone else suggested as well)?

I would like to see a build for a serval from you, seeing the impressive caiman build.

I havnt yet check with a zoo or anybody. Having a kid a few days ago kinda put everything on hold for a good while(worth it! :))
I think im gonna have to though. dont really think thier is anyway around it. Plus the serval's enclosure is really simple. it only needs to be something like 8' by 4' by 3' and locked at all times(again which i would obviously do at all times ;)) of course the enclosure would be larger than that ;)

Congratulations on the new baby!

I would definitley check with a local or close by zoo. They will probably end up being your best bet.

Would the enclosure be inside or outside?

I would go way bigger on those dimensions to give her some room to play. But I overdo everything, haha.

Good luck.

Lets just say the enclosure would be alot larger than that ;)

and her permit enclosure would prob be inside

I used to raise Savannahs and Chausies and I didnt have any Servals or Jungle cats but I have known a few breeders that have had Servals and African Jungle cats. They can be real friendly but they don't make great pets. Both male and female servals will spray. They also are vengeful at times, lets say your cat gets pissed at you. Maybe you yelled at him for being on the counter tops, or he didn't like a person or another cat you brought over. Well there is a good chance that cat is going to lay a big #2 right in the middle of your bed or maybe she will wait until the middle of the night when you get up to pee and she slips between the covers and lays a nice steamy one at 3:30 AM. Ya I've seen it happen. There is a fun side too, servals are playful. I watched a serval run full steam into the end of the hallway and she did a 180 about 6 feet up the end of the hall and then jumped on me. Get yourself a 50% or 75% Male Chausie of you can handle that then get a pure wild cat. Trust me a 20-25 lb male Chausie is a lot of cat. If you do get a Serval it will be able to live with the Chausie.

she is cute!! iv never heard of them(chausies) what do they run?
problem is here in PA hybrids(before 5 generations i think it is) i still need a permit. Iv had plenty of cats and im ready to try something challenging and large. 20 lbs of cat is nothing compared to the possible 55 lbs of cat i want!! lol. I dont really worry about not being able to handle a wild cat. lol
Currently i have a main coon mix and a mystery cat(believe rex is in it but he is the brother, or so they claim, of the main coon). My old cat lives with my parents and was a 18 lb monster. Lean, strong, tall and long. Vocal and more cat than most people can handle. I want more!!!

a bit off topic, but seeing this post reminded me, my family used to own a fox. he was awesome :D

pics? lol
not a large cat but still awesome!!
