Tank dimensions really needed to make some good suggestions.. a large school of clowns would def work no matter what the footprint.. but most rays would not be happy in that tank for life.. and imo your pushing the min tank size for a silver arrow.

thank you!!

when i see a big tank with a monster fish that is small in the tank.. That brings the cool factor way up because it is giving you a more natural look at what these fish can do in an open body of water... a monster fish like ur arro in a bare minimum i think 2 things... 1)poor fish 2) owner is a dousche... with an 8x3 foot long tank anything over 24" is pushing it... and silver arrows get like 3+feet right?

If you go with rays, look for hystrix or one of the other small species that will max out at around 15" or so. You don't want a female motoro with a 30" disk in an 8X3 tank (assuming those are the dimensions)

like i said.. that guy with an arrow in a 150g is a douchebag... you want to be like him go for it gimme your address and i'll send you a shirt...

A swarm of clown loaches would be pretty sweet. :D

what kind of shirt are we talking lol

and i was looking in the aro section and people had them in much less then a 375

and yea i really like rays, and i would be happy if they wernt even that big lol

THe only arrow I can think of that would fit a "smaller" monster tank would be the jardini or asian. the first being highly aggressive and generally not a suitable tank-mate for many if anyother fish ( most are fine until they hit 12" then murder their tank-mates) and the second is illegal in the US to own. there is a LFS by me that has a 600ish gallon tank with an adult female Motoro and a full grown silver arrowana.. These fish are HUGE. good rule of thumb when looking at fish is 2x the fishes adult size for depth, and 3-4x the size for length. height is generally not as much of an issue, keeping in mind extremes in either shallowness or height.

imo you would probably be able to house a pair of histrix ( one of the smaller ray species readily found) and a silver arrowana in a 24" depth tank for 2yrs approx. The rays would likely be OK for life in the tank but the silver would not.

Gasha put it to you well abit more bluntly then I would.. but the point is well made. water quality will always suffer with an overstocked tank. be prepared to 50% WC's 2x a week and the filtration system thats a beast to avoid abnormal growth and maintain quality fish. also look at the feed bill. Rays are not easy to keep, and need pristine water quality to survive let alone thrive in captivity long-term.

and I would not keep clowns with either of these fish.

sry if i came across like an asss, just tellin how it is. just because others keep them in small tanks and stunt their growth stressing the crap out of them doesn't mean you do... good luck with your setup... if you don't like cichlids you could always go saltwater... triggerfish are awesome!! and snowflake eels are fun to watch! you could have a sweet setup.... costly.... but sweet!!
