Possible cool tank...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looking at that tank gives me chills. When I serviced tanks, I had to clean one of those every couple months for a seafood shop. The water was kept at like 42 degrees and it was always disgusting from all the lobsters.

i vote get it.. you could always cut the bottom of the stand off (leave just enough for the bottom of the tank) then make some legs or whichever for it...

paint the base black!

pond it and put a pair of cichlids in there lol.

What kind of issues would I have attaching an acrylic cylinder to a plywood and fiberglass/epoxied bottom? I will look into it, vs an acrylic bottom panel, but either way its going to be a while before this gets set up, I think.

I'm still not even sure how I'm going to build a circular base for this thing. That's something I haven't had to do before. I'm really good at getting things square and level, but circular?:nilly:

And does anybody have a suggestion for acrylic thickness if I do use acrylic as the bottom panel?

you have to buy this thing.... Odd is in! :D

As for cutting Circles... use the string trick with a router and violia Perfect Circle everytime :headbang2

Well, the string trick doesn't really help with the framing underneath the circle, you know? there's the whole issue of 2x4's and crossbracing... :grinno:

build a square frame underneath your circle and let parts hang over, then build supports under where it is hanging over. for sure get it, i would say get a new acrylic bottom panel, and put a single overflow in the middle of it and build a sump for that bad boy, then build a solid cover out of acrylic and use it for a dining room table. :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

you could always use plywood as your base and top surface of the stand and just screw in 2x4s in a radial layout with 2 2x4 screwed together screwed in the center

or glue a couple lengths of 2x4 together and cut a curve of the circle into it so you can make a cabinet underneath and make your own ply laminate for the doors so you can pre-bend before laminating and use it for the doors. Design ideas are abound in my head for this one. :)
