Hey guys I was wondering if the FWC might ever allow us to obtain a Piranha Permit or a permit for other prohibited Predatory Fish in Florida? Such as ATF"S,Ray's,etc.

So you're telling me I could keep them IF I was studying them?

you would need to be at least 18 and in a college level research course to be able to even consider trying to get a license for "studying" purposes. but considering you're 13 you have some time before you even need to contact the dept of fish and game to get the proper paperwork.

Research permits require proof that you are educating the public on the species you want to keep or that you work with the species for scientific purposes. They are very strict about this and will not take your word for it. Expect them to check up on you and see what sort of piranha seminars you are holding at your house. :)

Also it usually costs over a hundred dollars every year to renew the permit, and there is usually more than one involved so you are looking at an expensive process assuming you could convince them that you're not just a hobbyist.

Most applications cost about $100 too, by the way. Non-refundable even if they decline you the permit. :(

Long story short, I'd move out of Florida if you absolutely need those species.

You do have a point, I like Tennessee better anyway, I could get piranha, wolf fish, African Tigers and others if I lived in TN.

I love fish just as much as anyone els but leaving FL for the sake of keeping a couple diff fish species is nutty, esp if you want to be a marine biologist becaus FL has some great marine biology programs. Besides, unless your a mega country hillbilly or a dirty south gangster TN has jack squat to offer as far music/culture/nightlife which may not be important to you now but when your 18 it will be lol.

ahhh to be 13 again.

if you're serious about being a marine biologist the last place you'll end up is tennessee. they don't have 1 program anywhere near the top 50 when it comes to marine biology programs and when you are a senior in high school you'll know how important that is.

but getting the proper cert for piranha isn't a given just because you are a marine biologist. one of my close friends is a marine biologist at the sea world in San diego. piranha and FW are illegal here in CA. he tried to get a cert for either given his background and place of employment and was denied for both.

google is your friend.
