Does anyone have any tank mates with there piranhas that have worked successfully? I have 5 medium sized red bellied piranhas. I recently put a large common pleco in the tank , they seem to attack it a bit but its fine! I really would like to put a marble shark in or another kind of shark in , would this be able to help? Thanks im new here!! ;):D

a pleco is about it as far as tank mates go i wouldnt try anything else IMO its not worth the risk

I have a spotted rapheal cat and they are fine together...once your p's get bigger maybe try a small fast and cheap tetra haha...they are too small usually for the p's to bother with and even if they do then they are easy to replace...once mine are larger I think I will try neons.

ah i forgot rapheal catfish i shouldnt have said jsut plecos really any bottom feeding catfish is worth a shot

i had a solo red belly that lived with a goldfish for about 5 months with no problems at all i thought it was really weird , hes a sweet red belly lol....

true iv got a pleco about 3X the size of my largest piranha and his names Lazy they go for him but he can take them!

its all a gamble i have had shoals that will accept rafael cats or plecos and some that would demolish them as soon as they entered the tank as far as dither fish lil neon or danios its a gamble too. usually everything get owned eventually

I've had a pleco with my 8 Ps from the time i got them and he's just fine. Swims the tank as if he owns it even though the Ps have quickly out grown him. It hid the first 3 days but since then it seems to stay out and about at all times.

Please do check the sticky though. It's got some great suggestions and success/failure stories.

Hi there.

As a matter of fact there is no tankmate for a Pygo shoal (beyond that one of it's own kind) that can be 100% succesfully kept along with the shoal, and even among them casualties may take place.

I don't know why many people insist on having any tank mate along with a pygo shoal?.

I know some people claim to have succesfully kept plecos along with pygos, but sooner or later the P's destroy what once was their companionship.

Regardless what I think is the most likely kind of fish you can keep along with your pygos is a Pacu, but you gonna need a really big tank though.

Cheers.
