possible shoal of 4 Rhom???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
probably won't work, but if you do decide to go with this idea, you will want to make sure that you keep the new ones together divided off from Ron and fed better than Ron until they are as big as him. keep them in the same tank, so that they are not suddenly in new territory and confused when you introduce them, because Ron will probably take advantage of this and attack. good luck with whatever desicion you make

Thats excatly what happens when you remove the divider----You just opened up that much territorry for them to lay claim to-----Keeping them in a divider only gets the comfy to what they have access too----That all goes out the door as soon as the divider is pulled.....

agreed... it's not a good idea. serras for the most part do not mix, although someone somewhere may have done it and it worked for a bit, success is measured in the long run. if people wanna keep on trying to put serras together or mix piranhas with any other type of fish, they are more than welcome to do so, but if you need to ask the question in the first place, chances are that you are not near experienced enough to try something like that. i personally don't see the need to have anything else in the tank with a piranha, they look good enough on their own.

I think u need to re-read what i wrote. im not asking a question, im asking for opinions. i know they are solitary, thats why i only have 1. but these were imported as a batch of ten, when they arrived at my lfs there were only 4 left alive (they had been killed and eaten) i took Ron which was the most dominant and there are 3 left. 3 still alive, 3 from the same batch, 3 co-existing in a 1.5ft tank. the only reason i think it may work is that these 3 have been together for 4-5 months from fry, under fed by the lfs and are still alive. 6 of the original 10 were killed on the way over so why are these 3 not killing each other now?

Just give it some time-
It will happen....

i'm not necessarily talking about you, it's just that everyday there's at least one post on here asking about piranha cohabs. those rhoms in the tank at the lfs will eventually turn on each other, they always do. rhoms are almost always kept together in tanks at the lfs just because it's easier to keep a bunch of small rhoms in one tank as opposed to using up a bunch of tanks with solos. if you re-read what i wrote, success is measured in the long run, and even a few months is not considered by any means to be a successful cohab... they will eventually kill each other and it won't necessarily be because they're hungry, alot of deaths within shoals start out as fights over territory.

I wonder what the water temp is and what they are feeding the 3 at the lfs. It is weird that 3 are in that small of a tank and not dead yet. the store by me had two that were each in their own little tank, but they packed a whole bunch of reds into this little cube like sardines.

They get more agressive and territorial as they get older. simple as that.

if you really want to do it I say do it.....but you already know the concequences....I mean if it works out it would really be bad ass....but if it doesnt then you know the rest....I have seen more crazy stuff happen so its up to you....

You gotta ask yourself this question, Are you willing to lose RON to the other three rhoms? ! had to ask myself the same question when i bought some terns for my brandtii's tank. All was well for a month untill they bit his pectoral fin nearly all the ways off.. since then i removed them and nursed Mcluvin (my brandtii) back to health.. although he is fine now i felt terrible after the fact knowing that it was my fault that he might not have made a recovery.. since then he hasnt been the monster he used to be acting more skittish and whimpy lol .. IMO !f you love your rhom continue to keep him solo so that you ensure perfect health and condition. then again a rhombeus shoal would be pretty bad ass lol
